Toy Story 3: Now playing in theaters near you
"Toy Story 3" might end up being one of the best films you'll see this year. The long awaited movie may provide Pixar with its largest opening weekend in history. By showing in more than 4,000 theaters and with the higher 3-D prices, "Toy Story 3" quite possibly will become the first Pixar film to top $100-million in its first weekend.
Until now, the biggest Pixar opening was "The Incredibles" at $70-million. "Toy Story 3" grossed an estimated $41-million at the US box office on Friday alone, as reported on Variety. That's the biggest opening day ever for an animated film.
Be on the hunt for "Easter eggs", or in common Disney parlance "Hidden Mickeys". Disney and Pixar commonly include references to characters from other Disney and Pixar films. The consistent Pixar reference is to A113 -- the CalArts classroom studio that has was the beginning for so many of Pixar's animators.
"Toy Story 3" is likely to be nominated in the Academy Awards for best animated feature film category next year.
